I have to be totally honest lezzies and gentlebastards, I’m crushing on some comic book heroes lately. My OTP is now officially Wiccan and Hulkling, aka Billy and Teddy from the Young Avengers.

Now, I’ve only just got into it so I don’t know much but I love Billy because:

You guys, a fucking lot has happened to him. Like, his so-called friends have experimented on him, Wolverine has tried to kill him (Wolverine seems to do that to nearly everyone, especially the gay characters–just saying), he’s been bullied and tortured and been on the brink of suicide a bunch of times. He’s just like me. Except the Wolverine killing part, though I did once walk by Hugh Jackman in a Macys and pass the hell out. Maybe he was trying to kill me with his veiny biceps, I don’t know. But, back to Billy: My poor dork, I totally just want to hold him and rock him and sing Sia to him.

Also, he’s fabulous. Like, he’s the only superhero who I legit believe stands in front of a mirror with a wind machine on the go, seeing how his cape looks. I imagine he makes sure his lycra is snug and his hair is did. That’s what I want from my heroes. That and superpowers and good abs.

And Teddy. Teddy is just, well, HOT! and, you know, really kind. That’s what’s come through. He’s got a troubled past too, right, and he’s been through so much physical and emotional pain (he survived vivisection which is, you know, not easy) but despite going down some dark paths, he’s still managed to keep hold of his goodness. And that’s incredible.

And did I mention this is in the Young Avengers? So this, like, is aimed at teenagers. That’s, well… as someone who grew up when there were so few gay superheroes (Northstar is still a geek crush, as is Midnighter *growl*) I just feel like this is so inspiring because this is a couple who’ve been together ages (they had a few blips but they’re back) and are engaged and they’re only teenagers and, oh yeah:

Billy aka Wiccan is massively powerful. His mom is the Scarlet Witch and they have the power to use magic and, sort of, bend reality. Take that down a moment: a gay guy is potentially one of the most powerful people walking the Earth. That’s freaking awesome.

So…where’s my f#@~!^g movie?

 

Ps: Expect to hear a lot more about gays in comic books, on TV, in books, and especially non-Canon relationships. Moriarty and Sebastian Moran, anyone? MorMor NomNOM.
